Hyderabad: The State government’s flagship programmes and various welfare schemes for the people had a lot in common with the ideologies of social reformist Jyotiba Phule, Finance Minister Etela Rajender said here on Saturday.

Speaking after releasing the invitation brochures for Jyotiba Phule birth anniversary celebrations at the State Secretariat, Rajender said the government’s initiatives on both development and welfare had brought a sea change in the society and people were happy.

“The State government will be celebrating Phule’s birth anniversary in all the districts,” he said and urged people to rededicate themselves to achieve Phule’s dream of a society free of all social maladies.

The Minister said the government’s programmes such as providing free education, overseas scholarships, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shadi Mubarak and providing super fine rice meal and residential schools were part of social reforms agenda. “Bangaru Telangana will be achieved only after developing the weaker sections in the State,” he said.

Mahabubnagar legislator V Srinivas Goud said Phule was the first person who fought for reservations. He also took objection to the opposition remarks against the budgetary allocations for backward sections.

Phule Birth Anniversary Celebrations Committee chairman Ganesh Chari said BCs got real independence after the formation of Telangana.
