Free cycles under ‘Badikostaa’ scheme

The Minister said that though the government was facing a financial crunch, priority was being given to education by higher budgetary allocations.

Visakhapatnam: The State Government is providing free bicycles to girl students under the `Badikostaa’` scheme in order to boost their confidence and also generate interest in studies, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said here on Thursday.

Addressing the girl students studying ninth class in GVMC, government, aided and Zilla Parishad schools after distributing free bicycles to them, he said that though the government was facing a financial crunch, priority was being given to education by higher budgetary allocations.

“As many as 1, 81,556 girl students studying in ninth class in the State are provided bicycles free of cost. The State Government is spending Rs 75 crore on this scheme,” he disclosed.

Srinivasa Rao said 12,172 bicycles were given away in the district. The Minister also revealed that girls were being provided training in martial arts for self-defence in all the districts.

The minister along with MPs K Haribabu and M Srinivasa Rao, MLAs, Zilla Parishad chairperson Lalam Bhavani and MLC PVN Madhav cut a cake to celebrate the 68th birthday of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the occasion.
