A scarf is one chic piece of accessory that would never go out of fashion. Though Parisians consider scarves as part of autumnal fashion wear, our Hyderabadi girls found a way to include these in their daily wear.

But why do girls need a scarf? To wrap it around their face to protect themselves not only from heat and pollution but also from unwanted stares, hoots and catcalls. Whatever be the reason to purchase a scarf, you need to think about a few things while shopping for them.

Neeraja Kona, a celebrity stylist, says, “As a stylist, I look for scarves made of mul fabric, linen or chiffon. I make a style statement by tying it to the handbag or just wrap around the neck. Scarves go very well when worn on plain tops. And when you are wearing a printed top, choose a plain scarf. They are surely one of the go-to accessories which never go out of trend.”

Here are some of the things you need to keep in mind while buying a scarf.

Quality: Since scarves are closer to your face and nose, never compromise on quality. It’s always better to invest in good quality ones rather than settling for cheaper stuff.

Fabric: Always opt for wool, silk, high-quality polyster (or mix), linen, Pashmina and cashmere. While choosing a fabric, do pay attention to the weave. Avoid bulky ones made from thick yarns.

Colour: Though there’s no thumb rule, remember to choose colours depending on your skin tone, the occasion and how well you can match them with your outfits. It’s safer to keep 3,4 scarves of different colours handy.

Print & Texture: Focus on prints and textures as they matter – a lot. From trendy stripes, circles, polka dots, geometrical & floral patterns to ethnic prints like Ikat and Batik are currently in.

Style: It’s your personal style we’re referring to, not the scarf’s style. Your own style and comfort should definitely be considered.

Now that we know how to choose scarves, where do we buy them in the city? Scarves are easily available in shopping areas in Badi Chowdi and Abids, various shopping malls in the city, Shilparamam, niche and exclusive boutiques in Banjara/Jubilee Hills– all in the price range of Rs 200-Rs 2,500. So, time to own a few.
