Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to release 50 tmc of Krishna water from Nagarjunasagar to facilitate Rabi farmers in the State.

This decision was taken on Monday at a high-level meeting chaired by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao. It is proposed to release the water on December 1 under six phases to allow the land to soak sufficiently. The Rabi season has already commenced and farmers are waiting release of water. Farmers from Nalgonda, Suryapet, Yadadiri, and Ranga Reddy will benefit from the move.

Of the 50 tmc Krishna water, 10 tmc would be diverted to meet the drinking water needs of people of twin cities and rest of the water would be utilised for irrigation during Rabi season. Meanwhile Irrigation officials have asked the farmers not to go for water intensive crops such as paddy.
