State to transfer funds to gram panchayats

Hyderabad: The State government is willing to directly transfer the 14th Finance Commission funds to gram panchayats.

Panchayat Raj Minister Jupali Krishna Rao made the announcement at a meeting with State Sarpanches’ Association on Sunday, association president Bhumanna Yadav told the media after the meeting.

Ministers Krishna Rao, Etela Rajender and T Harish Rao have agreed to sanction Rs 5 lakh immediately for construction of CC roads in all the villages, he said.

Yadav said the government also sanctioned new three phase power cables for all the villages to facilitate street lighting besides, giving the nod for release of Rs 45.16 crore for gram panchayats where sarpanches are elected unanimously and Rs 13.4 crore towards payment of sarpanches’ honorarium in the State.

The association members assured their cooperation in implementing developmental programmes, said T Venkatesh Goud, association’s secretary.
