Hyderabad: Jamsheed Hormusjee’s produced an all-round effort of three-wickets (3/12) and 44 runs to guide host side Secunderabad to a nine-wicket win against Surat in the first match of the 30th Jiji Irani Challenge Cup cricket tournament in Secunderabad on Wednesday.
Batting first, Surat were all out for a mere 103 runs. Secunderabad’s Zarkash Daver’s unbeaten 49 and Jamsheed’s crucial 44 helped the host side record an easy win.
Meanwhile second match between Jamshedpur and Kolkata turned out to be a nail-biting contest with the former registering a narrow three-run victory over the latter.
Match 1: Surat 103 in 23.3 overs (Jamsheed Hormusjee 3/12, Zarkash Daver 2/14, Rohan – 2/13, Manek – 2/27) lost to Secunderabad 104/1 (Jamsheed Hormusjee 44 and Zarkash Daver 49no);
Match 2: Jamshedpur 201/7 in 30 overs (Rohin Patel 93no; Jamshed Daver 2/16, Rayzad Bulsara 2/34) bt Kolkata 198/6 in 30 overs (Rayzad Bulsara 79, Ratan Postwalla 40; Kaiwan 3/20, Jaksis 3/30).
